Cloudy urine in early pregnancy: what to know

Early pregnancy can bring changes in vaginal discharge, and discharge may mix with urine and make a sample look cloudy. Nausea or vomiting can reduce fluid intake and concentrate urine. Cloudiness alone cannot confirm pregnancy; a pregnancy test and clinical assessment are more useful for that question.

Urinary tract infections can occur during pregnancy and may cause burning, urgency, frequent urination, lower abdominal discomfort, or unusual smell. Drink fluids regularly if you can keep them down, unless a clinician has given you a fluid restriction. Do not use leftover antibiotics or delay care because the cloudiness seems mild. Note the timing, colour, smell, pain, vomiting, discharge, and whether the change remains after drinking.
