Etihad passengers get automatic Daman emergency cover. UAE clinics and insurers should check eligibility, billing paths and referral capture.
How Zavis verifies this coverage

Etihad Airways and DCT Abu Dhabi have added automatic emergency medical travel insurance for eligible international visitors flying to or through Abu Dhabi between 1 July and 31 December 2026, with cover of up to AED 1 million per person.
The highest-stakes readers are clinic COOs, insurance heads and CFOs. Dubai clinics regulated by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) should read the move as a patient-routing signal, because the benefit makes Abu Dhabi the default insured entry point for some short-stay visitors. Abu Dhabi providers regulated by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DOH Abu Dhabi) need to check whether they sit inside Daman's visitor network before assuming direct billing. Northern emirates clinics licensed by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) need the same check before accepting an Etihad visitor as an insured emergency case.
What the policy covers
The policy is the Ziyarah - Etihad Inbound Emergency Health Insurance Plan, according to Etihad's medical travel insurance terms. Daman, part of PureHealth, underwrites and administers the plan. Etihad says the ticket is the policy and no separate application is required.

Eligibility is narrow. The traveller must fly on an Etihad-operated flight originating outside the UAE, hold a valid return ticket and stay in the UAE for at least 24 hours. The maximum coverage period is 15 consecutive days from UAE entry. UAE nationals and GCC nationals are excluded under the published terms.
- Travel window: 1 July to 31 December 2026.
- Coverage cap: AED 1 million per person for the full covered stay.
- Network claim route: treatment must use Daman's Visitors Plan Network for direct billing.
- Facility access: Etihad markets the network as more than 3,000 hospitals and clinics across the UAE.
Why clinics should care
For Dubai, the commercial point is patient acquisition. A DHA-licensed urgent care clinic near a hotel district may see an Etihad visitor first, but direct billing depends on Daman network status and pre-approval rules. Clinics should confirm the patient's Etihad ticket, entry date, mobile number and email address before treatment is coded as an insured case.
For Abu Dhabi, the operational point is tighter. DOH Abu Dhabi-licensed hospitals and clinics that already process Daman claims may benefit if Etihad channels tourists into insured emergency pathways. That does not make every visit reimbursable. The plan covers emergency inpatient treatment and day treatment linked to hospital confinement. Routine checks, elective care, cosmetic procedures and most pre-existing or chronic conditions are outside the plan unless immediate life-saving stabilisation is required.
For the northern emirates, MOHAP-licensed clinics should treat the cover as UAE-wide in territory but network-specific in payment. Etihad's terms say emergency treatment is restricted to the UAE, while direct billing requires Daman's Visitors Plan Network. A Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah clinic should verify network inclusion through Daman before offering a cashless route.
Insurer and finance implications
The immediate insurer is The National Insurance Company - Daman. The policy may also change how competing UAE insurers price inbound visitor products for Dubai and Sharjah travel. A short-stay visitor who previously bought separate travel medical insurance can now arrive with automatic emergency cover if the Etihad ticket qualifies.
CFOs should resist treating the AED 1 million cap as expected revenue. The cap is a maximum aggregate limit, not a tariff. Revenue still depends on emergency classification, pre-approval, network status, length of stay, coding quality and whether treatment occurs inside the covered 15-day period. Denial risk is explicit: Etihad's terms say Daman may reject a claim if the member's active email address or mobile number is missing, invalid or unreachable when the claim is filed.
Operators should run a short checklist before accepting an Etihad visitor as insured: flight operator, point of origin, point of sale, UAE entry date, return ticket, stay duration, nationality, Daman network status and pre-approval requirement. Front desks should keep this as a separate script from standard UAE resident insurance checks.
The next question is whether Dubai-linked carriers and insurers respond with their own bundled visitor cover before the winter travel season. Until then, clinics should confirm licensed provider status and network eligibility through regulator directories. Readers can use the UAE Open Healthcare Directory to identify licensed clinics and providers before making a referral or commercial approach.
