Telogen Hair Fall: What It Can Mean

The scalp may release more hairs during washing, brushing, or ordinary daily activity. This pattern is often spread across the scalp, rather than limited to a smooth circle. Note the start date, approximate change in shedding, areas affected, and any scalp symptoms. Review recent health events and medicines with a clinician rather than stopping a prescribed medicine yourself. Gentle washing and detangling can reduce breakage, while balanced meals support normal hair production.

The plan depends on the cause. Some cases improve after the trigger is addressed; persistent or mixed patterns may lead to a discussion of topical treatment or referral to dermatology. Finasteride is not suitable for everyone and requires individual medical advice.

Seek clinical advice for sudden heavy shedding, a rapidly enlarging area, loss of eyebrows or eyelashes, or a scalp that is painful, inflamed, scaly, or crusted. An urgent review is appropriate if hair loss occurs with severe illness or a serious medicine reaction.
