A whitehead, also called a closed comedone, forms when oil and dead skin cells plug a pore beneath a thin surface layer. Rosacea more often presents with central facial redness, flushing, visible small vessels, warmth, or burning. Some people can have rosacea and acne at the same time, making the appearance confusing. Tiny firm pearly bumps that do not behave like pores may be milia instead. A clinician can examine the pattern, texture, and surrounding redness before choosing treatment.

Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and avoid squeezing or scrubbing the bumps. Choose non-comedogenic moisturiser and sunscreen, and introduce only one new product at a time. Products for acne can irritate rosacea-prone skin, particularly when used too often or on already burning areas. A dermatologist may distinguish comedonal acne from rosacea and discuss options such as topical retinoids or carefully performed extraction when appropriate.

Arrange a dermatology review if bumps persist, spread, scar, or occur with ongoing facial burning or marked redness. Seek prompt medical attention for rapidly increasing swelling, severe pain, pus with fever, or eye symptoms such as pain, light sensitivity, or blurred vision. These features need assessment because they are not explained by a simple whitehead.
