How to remove milia on the eyelid

Milia are tiny, firm, pearly or white cysts containing keratin, often appearing around the eyes. They are different from inflamed acne and may not respond to ordinary spot products. A small eyelid bump can also be a blocked gland, irritation, or another lesion, so appearance alone is not enough for diagnosis. Skin around the eye is thin and close to the eye itself, which makes picking, needles, and unprescribed acids particularly risky.

Leave the area clean and avoid rubbing, squeezing, or trying to pierce the cyst. Remove eye makeup gently and use products intended for the eyelid area. If the lesion persists or bothers you, a dermatologist or eye specialist may release it with a sterile technique. Curettage and cautery can be considered in selected cases. A clinician may discuss topical retinoids for suitable areas, but these can irritate the eyelid and must be kept away from the eye unless specifically directed. Do not use a home extraction kit.

Arrange prompt assessment for pain, marked redness, swelling, discharge, vision changes, light sensitivity, or a bump that grows or bleeds. Seek review if several lesions appear suddenly or if the area remains irritated after a product. Any eyelid lesion that changes rather than staying like a small stable white bump deserves an examination.
