How to interpret a suspected nit
Nits are attached close to the scalp and do not brush away easily. Dandruff, lint, and product residue usually move more readily along the hair. The most useful confirmation is finding a live crawling louse or having a trained clinician identify the finding. Some empty or old egg cases can stay attached after lice are no longer active.
