How to get rid of text neck

Short answer
You can reduce text neck by bringing screens higher, varying your posture, taking movement breaks and using targeted treatment when pain or stiffness continues.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common trigger
- Prolonged forward head position during device use
- First adjustment
- Raise the screen and vary position often
What text neck involves
Text neck, also called forward head posture or postural neck strain, describes repeated time with the head held forward while using a phone, tablet or laptop. The neck and upper-back muscles may become tired, tight or painful, and headaches or reduced movement can occur. Neck Pain and Upper Back Pain can also have other causes, so a persistent pattern deserves an examination.
Change the daily load
Hold the phone closer to eye level, support your forearms and use a chair that lets your feet rest firmly. Alternate sitting, standing and walking rather than chasing one perfect posture. Take frequent brief movement breaks: roll the shoulders gently, turn the head within a comfortable range and reset your breathing. Physiotherapy or Postural Correction Therapy can teach graded strengthening and mobility. A Workplace Ergonomic Assessment may identify monitor, keyboard or desk changes; Chiropractic Adjustment is not suitable for everyone and should follow a proper assessment.
When to seek care
Seek urgent care after a major injury, or when neck pain comes with new arm or leg weakness, loss of coordination, severe headache, fever or unusual numbness. Book a review when symptoms persist despite changing device habits, repeatedly disturb sleep or limit work and daily movement.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your symptoms fit posture-related strain, which exercises suit your neck, and how to adjust your workstation. Ask how often to take movement breaks and what symptoms would require imaging or urgent review.
