What should you know about florid adenomyosis?

Adenomyosis occurs when tissue resembling the uterine lining grows into the muscular wall. The muscle may become thickened or enlarged, and monthly hormonal changes can trigger inflammation, cramping, and bleeding. Florid is a descriptive term suggesting widespread or pronounced involvement; it does not by itself describe cancer.

Symptoms can overlap with fibroids, endometriosis, or other causes of bleeding and pain. Ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging may support assessment, while the full picture includes symptoms, examination, pregnancy plans, and previous treatments.

Record bleeding, pain, fatigue, and how symptoms affect work or sleep. A clinician may discuss anti-inflammatory medicines, hormonal options such as a hormonal coil, or procedures including uterine artery embolisation. Endometrial ablation and hysterectomy have different effects on fertility and are considered in specific circumstances.

Seek prompt care for bleeding that makes you dizzy or weak, severe sudden pelvic pain, fever, or possible pregnancy with significant pain or bleeding. Arrange review when symptoms persist, worsen, or cause tiredness that may reflect iron deficiency.
