Deep adenomyosis

Adenomyosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining is found within the muscular wall. When the affected area reaches deeper into that wall, clinicians may describe it as deep adenomyosis. The term describes location and extent; it does not by itself predict how severe your symptoms will be.

Some people have heavy periods, painful periods, pelvic pressure, or pain between periods, while others have few symptoms. Fibroids, endometriosis, and other pelvic conditions can cause similar complaints. Imaging such as ultrasound or MRI may help map the uterus and guide a personalised discussion.

A Hormonal Coil may be considered for suitable patients; specialist options can include Uterine Artery Embolisation, Endometrial Ablation, or Hysterectomy.

Each option has different effects on fertility, periods, recovery, and future procedures. Ask how imaging findings change the plan and whether another pelvic condition should be assessed.

Book clinical review for ongoing heavy bleeding, worsening pain, fatigue, pressure, or difficulty becoming pregnant. Seek urgent care if bleeding is very heavy, you feel faint or weak, pain is sudden or severe, or fever accompanies pelvic symptoms.
