Claritin for sinus pressure: what to know

Allergies can swell the lining of the nose and narrow drainage openings, creating a feeling of pressure around the cheeks, forehead, or nose. Claritin can reduce histamine-related allergy symptoms, but it does not directly clear every blocked sinus. Sinusitis may cause congestion, facial pain or pressure, reduced smell, cough, or discoloured discharge. Migraine can also cause facial pressure and may come with nausea, light sensitivity, or a throbbing headache. The location, duration, triggers, and accompanying symptoms help separate these possibilities.

Take Claritin only as directed on the label or by a pharmacist, particularly if you have other conditions or take regular medicines. Rest, drink fluids, and consider saline nasal spray for comfort. Avoid smoke and known allergy triggers. Do not keep adding cold or decongestant products without checking ingredients, because duplicate medicines can cause harm. Record whether pressure changes with posture, allergy exposure, congestion, headache, or light.
