What should you know about cardiac asthma symptoms?

People may notice shortness of breath during activity, while lying flat, or during the night. A cough may produce mucus, and wheezing can sound like a musical or whistling breath. Swollen ankles, unusual tiredness, a racing heartbeat, or reduced ability to do usual activities can point toward a heart-related cause. Chest Tightness and Cough are symptoms with many possible explanations. Asthma can also cause wheezing and chest symptoms, so the timing, posture, medical history, and examination matter.

Record when breathlessness starts, what you were doing, whether lying down changes it, and whether swelling or palpitations occur. Arrange medical review for a new pattern, symptoms that are gradually worsening, or repeated night waking. Sit upright if that makes breathing easier, take only medicines prescribed for you, and bring your medication list to the appointment. A clinician may check your heart, lungs, oxygen level, and fluid balance before choosing treatment.

Call emergency services for breathlessness at rest, inability to speak normally, blue or grey lips, fainting, confusion, severe chest pain, or rapidly worsening wheezing. Sudden breathlessness with a cold sweat or a very fast or irregular heartbeat also needs immediate help. Do not drive yourself if you feel faint or severely short of breath.

Ask whether the symptom pattern suggests heart congestion, Asthma, or another problem. Ask which changes in sleep, swelling, cough, or exercise tolerance deserve urgent contact, and whether you should monitor anything at home.
