When to worry about whiteheads with milia

Milia are small, firm, pearly or white cysts formed from trapped keratin near the skin surface. Whiteheads is a common presentation of Milia, but acne, irritation, and other lesions can look similar. Milia often occur around the eyelids, cheeks, or other facial areas and may not behave like an inflamed spot.

Cleanse gently and avoid needles, scraping, squeezing, or abrasive products, especially near the eyes. Use skincare that does not sting or clog your pores, and stop a new product if it causes redness or swelling. A clinician can confirm the diagnosis and discuss safe removal when a bump is persistent or bothersome.

Book an assessment if a bump bleeds, crusts, grows quickly, becomes painful, drains, or is surrounded by spreading redness. Seek urgent help for eyelid swelling with vision changes, severe pain, or breathing difficulty. Persistent clusters also deserve review when the diagnosis is uncertain.
