What should you know about triple inhaler therapy?

The three components usually include an inhaled corticosteroid to reduce inflammation and two bronchodilators that open the airways through different actions. Products differ, and triple therapy is used in selected asthma or COPD plans rather than as a general treatment for every cough. Spirometry can help assess airflow and support diagnosis, while Inhaler Therapy covers device technique and medicine use. Cough, Wheezing, and Chest Tightness may improve when the underlying airway problem is controlled, but those symptoms can also have other causes.

Use the prescribed device at the prescribed times, even when breathing feels settled, unless your clinician changes the plan. Have your technique checked regularly, because inhaling too quickly, failing to seal your lips, or skipping device preparation can reduce delivery to the lungs. Keep the inhaler clean, check remaining doses, and record symptoms, night waking, activity limits, and rescue medicine use. Report troublesome tremor, racing heartbeat, hoarse voice, or mouth soreness. Never combine inhalers with overlapping ingredients without checking with a clinician or pharmacist.

Call emergency services for severe breathlessness, inability to speak comfortably, blue or grey lips, faintness, confusion, or rapidly worsening symptoms. Seek prompt clinical advice if your reliever is needed more often, usual activities become difficult, or cough, wheezing, or chest tightness keeps returning. A sudden change may need treatment for an exacerbation rather than an adjustment made at home. Bring all inhalers to the review so the team can check what you are taking.
