What should you know about skin test for asthma?

During testing, tiny amounts of possible allergens are placed on the skin, commonly the forearm or back. A small local reaction may suggest sensitivity to that substance. The result needs to be matched with your symptoms, exposure pattern, examination, and breathing tests. A positive result means your immune system reacts to that allergen; it does not prove that every cough or episode of breathlessness is caused by it.

Asthma is assessed separately with tests of airflow and how the lungs respond over time.
