What should you know about skin breakout?

Short answer
A skin breakout can include pimples, whiteheads, blocked pores, and oiliness; gentle care helps, but persistent or painful changes need assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What a breakout can mean
Acne is a common condition in which oil, dead skin cells, and inflammation affect hair follicles. A breakout may be linked with hormonal shifts, friction, occlusive products, stress, or medicines, although one visible spot cannot identify a single cause. Whiteheads are closed blocked pores; pimples may be inflamed and tender. Dark marks can remain after inflammation and are called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Oily skin can accompany acne, but breakouts can also occur without very oily skin.
What you can do
Wash gently twice daily and after heavy sweating, using lukewarm water and a non-abrasive cleanser. Choose non-comedogenic moisturiser and sunscreen, remove makeup before sleep, and avoid squeezing or scrubbing lesions. Introduce only one acne active at a time if advised, because irritation can worsen redness and marks. A clinician can match treatment to comedones, inflamed pimples, skin sensitivity, and the risk of scarring. Procedures such as an acne extraction facial, chemical peel, or LED light therapy may suit selected people but should not replace diagnosis.
When to seek care
Arrange medical review for deep painful lumps, scarring, widespread inflammation, sudden severe onset, or breakouts that persist despite a consistent routine. Seek prompt advice if a new rash is accompanied by fever, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or eye involvement. A clinician can also help when the appearance is affecting sleep, confidence, or daily activities.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the pattern fits acne, what may be triggering it, which ingredients are appropriate for your skin, and how to prevent dark marks. Ask how long to try a plan, what irritation is expected, and whether a procedure is suitable for active lesions.

Questions people ask
Should I squeeze a breakout?
No. Squeezing can push inflammation deeper and increase the chance of infection, dark marks, or scarring.
When does a breakout need a dermatologist?
Book an assessment for painful deep lesions, scarring, widespread changes, or persistent breakouts that do not improve with gentle care.
