What should you know about simtom influenza?

Influenza is a viral respiratory infection. Many people develop a sudden combination of Fever, Cough, Chills, Headache, Fatigue and Feeling Generally Unwell; aching muscles, sore throat or reduced appetite may also occur. Symptoms can overlap with other respiratory infections, so the pattern alone cannot confirm influenza. Pneumonia is a more serious chest infection that may develop as a complication or have similar symptoms, particularly when breathing becomes difficult or a cough worsens.

Rest, drink fluids regularly and stay home while you feel unwell to reduce spread. Use medicines only as directed and check with a pharmacist or clinician if you are pregnant, have a long-term condition, or take other medicines. Cover coughs, wash hands and improve airflow indoors. Contact a clinician early if symptoms are severe, worsening, or you are at higher risk of complications; treatment decisions may depend on timing and personal health.

Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, blue or grey lips, confusion, fainting, dehydration, or unusual difficulty waking. Arrange prompt medical advice if fever persists, symptoms improve and then sharply worsen, or you develop breathlessness with a worsening cough. Children, older adults, pregnant people and those with chronic illnesses may need earlier assessment.
