Selsun Blue for rosacea: what to know

Selsun Blue contains selenium sulfide and is formulated for selected scalp conditions. Rosacea commonly involves facial redness, sensitivity, flushing, burning, or acne-like bumps; a product designed for the scalp can be too harsh for this skin. A reaction after use may be irritant or allergic contact dermatitis rather than proof that rosacea is spreading. Rosacea itself should be assessed by its pattern and triggers, not by a response to one shampoo.

Avoid putting Selsun Blue on the face unless a clinician specifically directs you to do so. If it has already caused stinging, rinse thoroughly, stop using it, and keep the routine gentle with lukewarm water and a bland moisturizer. Do not scrub, use fragranced products, or layer several new actives over irritated skin.
