Rosacea bumps on the face: what to know

Rosacea may present with red or skin-coloured bumps and small pus-filled spots, often across the central face. They can resemble acne, but the surrounding flushing, stinging and trigger pattern may differ. The presence of facial bumps is a presentation of rosacea; it does not prove that every facial bump is rosacea. A clinician may also consider irritation, folliculitis or acne.

Keep the routine simple: gentle cleanser, non-comedogenic moisturiser and sunscreen. Do not squeeze the bumps or layer multiple strong acne products onto sensitive skin. Azelaic Acid Treatment may be discussed for inflammatory lesions. IPL Photofacial and Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment are aimed mainly at persistent redness or visible vessels, not the bumps themselves.

Arrange a dermatology review if symptoms persist, spread, crust, become painful or change quickly. Seek prompt care for eye pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision or marked eyelid swelling. Sudden facial swelling with breathing trouble needs emergency help.
