What should you know about rosacea acneica?

Rosacea may produce red bumps and pustules on the central face, with flushing, warmth, burning, or stinging. Unlike typical acne, blackheads and whiteheads are not the defining feature, and the surrounding skin may stay persistently red or react easily to products. The terms acne rosacea and rosacea acneica are used for this acne-like presentation, but a clinician still needs to examine the skin because acne and rosacea can occur together. Pimples alone do not establish either diagnosis.

Keep cleansing and moisturising simple, use daily sun protection, and avoid scrubs, picking, and products that trigger burning. Note exposures that precede flushing, such as heat, alcohol, spicy foods, or intense emotion, because patterns can help guide care. A dermatologist may choose azelaic acid treatment for selected inflammatory lesions. Persistent background redness or visible vessels may be discussed separately with IPL photofacial or pulsed dye laser treatment.

Book an assessment if pimples repeatedly appear with flushing or persistent redness, if treatment for acne is irritating your skin, or if symptoms leave marks or discomfort.
