PSMA-targeted therapy

PSMA is most closely associated with prostate cancer, but the phrase can be confusing because not every PSMA-directed approach is the same. Your team may use imaging or tissue information to assess whether the target is visible. Treatment planning also considers the cancer’s location, earlier therapy, kidney function, blood counts, symptoms, and other health conditions. Possible effects depend on the medicine: tiredness, nausea, dry mouth, skin effects, changes in blood counts, or organ strain may be discussed.

Ask which PSMA test supports the recommendation and whether the treatment is radioactive. Share your medicines, supplements, allergies, kidney problems, and previous treatments. Keep appointments for scans and laboratory checks. Arrange help with travel and daily tasks if fatigue is expected, and request written instructions about fluids, eating, medicines, and home precautions.

Call your cancer team for fever, repeated vomiting, new bleeding, severe mouth dryness that prevents drinking, or a noticeable drop in urine.
