Ovulation after ectopic pregnancy

The return of ovulation varies after treatment with medicine or surgery. A remaining fallopian tube may still release and transport an egg, while healing, hormone changes, or the treatment plan can affect the timing. Ovulation itself does not show where a future pregnancy is located. A previous ectopic pregnancy raises the need for early confirmation in a new pregnancy, and pelvic infection such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease can also affect the tubes. Attend the follow-up tests recommended by your care team and wait for pregnancy hormone levels to return as advised. Ask when it is medically appropriate to try again, particularly after medicine or an operation. If avoiding pregnancy, use contraception during the recommended recovery period. Once pregnant, contact your clinician early so the pregnancy location can be checked; a Transvaginal Ultrasound may be used. Get urgent help for one-sided or worsening pelvic pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, severe dizziness, or vaginal bleeding after a positive pregnancy test. These symptoms need prompt assessment because an ectopic pregnancy can become dangerous even when a period has not been missed.
