What should you know about occipito cervical fusion?

The operation uses bone graft and fixation, such as screws, rods or a plate, to hold the occiput and upper cervical vertebrae in one stable unit while fusion develops. It can be considered for instability, deformity, injury, arthritis or pressure around the brainstem and spinal cord.
