What should you know about normal lung chest x ray?

The report may describe clear lung fields, a normal heart size, and no visible fluid, collapse or acute bone finding. X-rays are useful for larger or denser changes, including some infections, but small, early or airway-level problems may not be visible. A clear film does not assess breathing strength, oxygen levels or every cause of chest discomfort. The radiologist's wording matters, and the clinician combines it with your history, examination and reason for the test. Read the report with the clinician who requested it and ask whether the result answers the original concern. Keep track of cough, fever, wheeze, pain, breathlessness and any change over time.
