Short answer

Nasal rosacea is a form of rosacea that can cause persistent redness, flushing, burning, sensitivity, and bumps on or around the nose.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What nasal rosacea means

The nose may look red between episodes of flushing, and warmth, stinging, or tightness can accompany the colour change. Some people develop small inflamed bumps or visible thread-like blood vessels. Sun exposure, heat, spicy food, alcohol, emotional stress, and irritating products can trigger flares, although triggers differ between people. Nasal rosacea is not the same as acne, and squeezing bumps can worsen irritation. A clinician may examine the skin and ask about patterns, triggers, eye symptoms, and products.

Ways to manage it

Use a gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, a bland moisturiser, and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen. Introduce products one at a time and stop anything that stings. Keep a trigger diary so you can identify personal patterns. A dermatologist may recommend Azelaic Acid Treatment for bumps and inflammation, or light-based options such as IPL Photofacial or Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment for persistent redness and vessels. Treatment choice depends on your skin, symptoms, and examination.

When to seek care

Arrange a dermatology assessment when redness persists, flares become frequent, bumps do not settle, or symptoms affect confidence or daily comfort. Seek prompt medical attention for sudden facial swelling, severe pain, spreading warmth, fever, or eye pain, light sensitivity, or vision changes, because these features need a different assessment.

Questions for your doctor

Could this be rosacea rather than acne or another skin condition? Which triggers or products should I avoid? Would a topical treatment help the bumps or burning? Am I a suitable candidate for a vascular laser or IPL treatment? What changes should make me contact you sooner?

Questions people ask

Can nasal rosacea affect only the nose?

It can be most noticeable on the nose, though rosacea may also affect nearby facial skin or the eyes.

Should I squeeze rosacea bumps?

No. Squeezing can increase inflammation and may injure already sensitive skin.
