Short answer

Mono threads for the face are fine dissolvable threads placed beneath facial skin to provide subtle support rather than a surgical lift.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How facial treatment works

After the skin is cleaned and usually numbed, a clinician guides threads into selected facial planes. Smooth threads can create a framework as tissue heals around them. They do not remove loose skin or replace treatment for deep folds, significant volume loss, or medical skin problems.

Facial anatomy matters: nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and the eye area require careful planning. Cosmetic mono threads have no connection with mono, the informal name for glandular fever. If you have fatigue, fever, sore throat, or swollen glands, discuss those symptoms separately with a healthcare professional.

Preparing for a facial procedure

Ask for the clinician’s qualifications, the exact treatment map, the thread material, and the plan if threads become visible or migrate. Mention active acne, cold sores, skin infection, pregnancy, allergies, medicines, and prior fillers or thread procedures.

Arrange a calm recovery period. Mild soreness, bruising, swelling, tightness, or uneven movement can occur. Use only the cleansing and pain-relief measures recommended for you, and avoid rubbing, sleeping directly on the treated area, or booking another facial procedure until your clinician says it is suitable.

Symptoms needing review

Report increasing pain, spreading redness, heat, discharge, persistent swelling, skin colour change, or a thread that can be seen or felt at the surface. Sudden vision change, severe eye pain, breathing difficulty, or rapidly worsening facial swelling warrants urgent care.

Take these questions along

Which facial layer will be treated, and why? What alternatives could meet my goal? How will you protect sensitive structures, what aftercare is required, and who manages a complication if one develops?

Questions people ask

Are facial mono threads a surgical facelift?

No. They are inserted through small entry points and do not remove excess skin like facelift surgery.

Can facial mono threads cause swelling?

Swelling and tenderness can occur after insertion. Worsening swelling, fever, discharge, or severe pain should be assessed.
