What should you know about migraine behind left eye?

Migraine pain can be felt around or behind one eye and may spread into the forehead, temple, face, or neck. It can be throbbing, pressing, or worsened by movement. Nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, dizziness, or visual aura may accompany it. The left-sided location alone does not establish the cause. Eye surface problems, sinus symptoms, nerve pain, and other conditions may also produce facial pain and pressure, so a new or unusual pattern deserves review.

Rest in a dark, quiet room and limit screens, strong smells, and strenuous activity. Drink fluids and try a small meal if you have not eaten. Use migraine medicine only as directed by your clinician or the package instructions, and avoid repeatedly taking pain medicine without advice. Keep a record of the pain side, eye symptoms, triggers, and response to treatment. Do not drive if vision, balance, or concentration is affected.

Get emergency help for sudden severe pain, new weakness, facial drooping, confusion, trouble speaking, fainting, or a new loss of vision. Seek urgent eye assessment for a red painful eye, marked light sensitivity with reduced vision, halos around lights, or severe pain with vomiting. Arrange a clinical review when pain is new, persistent, repeatedly confined to the eye, or different from your usual migraine.
