What should you know about head lice solution?

The word solution can describe a liquid lotion, rinse, or other topical preparation made to contact lice on the scalp and hair. Its active ingredient and instructions vary, so one product cannot be used as a guide for another. An itchy scalp is not enough to confirm lice; live lice are the most useful sign, while attached eggs can be confused with dandruff or hair debris.

Check the label for age limits, hair preparation, application area, contact time, and whether a second application is advised. Use gloves if the instructions say so, ventilate the room, and prevent eye contact. Rinse as directed, then use a fine-toothed comb to remove lice and nits from sections of damp hair. Do not use extra solution because itching continues, and do not combine it with another medicine without advice.
