Hair regrowth after telogen effluvium

Telogen effluvium shifts more hairs than usual into a resting phase, so shedding may become noticeable after illness, major stress, surgery, marked weight change, or another body strain. The scalp often looks normal, with diffuse thinning rather than a single smooth bald patch. New short hairs can appear while older hairs are still shedding.

Think back to changes in health, diet, medicines, and stress before shedding began, and discuss them with a clinician. Eat regularly with adequate protein, avoid tight styles and harsh processing, and handle wet hair gently. Topical minoxidil, PRP for hair loss, or hair supplement therapy may be discussed when examination suggests they are appropriate; supplements are not a substitute for correcting a deficiency.

Arrange assessment when shedding is sudden, persistent, patchy, painful, scaly, or accompanied by fatigue or other bodily symptoms. A dermatologist can look for scalp disease, nutritional or hormonal contributors, and pattern hair loss that may need a different plan.
