Short answer

A major operation, infection, fever, blood loss, restricted intake, or emotional strain can interrupt the hair cycle. The resulting diffuse shedding may not appear until weeks or months after the event, which can make the connection seem unclear. Hair may thin across the scalp rather than form a single bare patch. Surgery can also coincide with new medicines, nutritional deficiency, thyroid problems, or prolonged pressure on one area of the scalp, so the operation is not automatically the complete explanation.

What it can mean

Record the procedure date, complications, hospital medicines, and when shedding started. Use gentle washing and avoid tight hairstyles, harsh chemical treatments, and heat while the scalp is sensitive. Eat regular balanced meals as recovery allows and ask the surgical or primary-care team before taking iron, biotin, or other supplements. A clinician can inspect the scalp, review recovery and medicines, and decide whether blood tests or dermatology referral are appropriate. Hair-cycle recovery is gradual when the trigger has resolved.
