Fraxel skin rejuvenation: what to expect

The laser delivers energy in a pattern of microscopic columns. This leaves untreated skin between the columns and prompts a repair response in the treated areas. As the skin repairs, collagen remodelling may gradually make the surface look smoother and more even. It can be considered for facial concerns such as fine lines or Crow's Feet and for some signs of Sun-Damaged Skin, but it does not stop natural ageing or replace daily sun protection.

During consultation, discuss your goals, skin tone, previous reactions, cold sores, medicines and any active skin condition. The clinician chooses the device settings and treatment area after examining your skin. Arrange a gentle recovery routine and avoid scheduling treatment immediately before an event. Expect temporary redness, warmth, swelling, dryness or flaking. Keep the area clean, avoid rubbing, and use the recommended moisturiser and sun protection while the skin recovers.

Contact the clinic if discomfort intensifies, redness expands, swelling becomes pronounced, or you see pus, blisters, fever, or worsening tenderness. Prompt assessment is needed for facial swelling that affects breathing or vision. If a dark or pale patch persists beyond the expected recovery period, arrange a review before applying bleaching or steroid products yourself.

Ask what changes the treatment is intended to address, how many visits may be considered, when you can return to exercise and makeup, and how pigment risk will be managed.
