What should you know about fractional laser eyelids?

Fractional treatment leaves small areas between the laser columns untreated, helping the surface begin repair from nearby skin. It may be considered for fine lines or texture changes, but eyelid skin is not interchangeable with cheek skin. The clinician must account for lid movement, eyelid closure, dryness, pigment changes and the distance to the eye. Common short-term reactions include redness, puffiness, warmth, peeling and sensitivity.

Before treatment, disclose dry eye, contact-lens use, eye surgery, glaucoma, active dermatitis, cold sores, medicines and any history of unusual scarring or pigmentation. Ask exactly which lid areas will be treated and what eye shields are used. Afterward, cleanse gently, apply only the recommended products, avoid picking or rubbing, and protect the area from sunlight. Contact the clinic for worsening discomfort, spreading redness, drainage, fever, persistent blistering or swelling that interferes with normal lid movement.
