Fluorescent light sensitivity symptoms

Short answer
Fluorescent light sensitivity can cause eye discomfort, headache, nausea, or difficulty concentrating, and the trigger may be an eye problem, migraine, or another condition.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How it can feel
Some people notice discomfort from flicker, glare, brightness, or contrast rather than from all light. Symptoms may include squinting, tearing, eye strain, headache, nausea, dizziness, or a desire to close the eyes. Migraine can present with light sensitivity, while Conjunctivitis may cause light discomfort alongside redness, discharge, or irritation. A symptom pattern does not identify the cause by itself.
New, severe, or persistent sensitivity deserves attention, especially when it affects vision or daily activities. Record when it occurs, which lights trigger it, and whether headache, eye redness, fever, or neurological symptoms appear at the same time.
Ways to reduce discomfort
Move away from glare, use softer indirect lighting where possible, and take regular screen breaks. Adjust brightness gradually rather than sitting in complete darkness, and consider tinted lenses only after professional advice. Rest, hydration, and a regular sleep pattern may help if migraine is part of the pattern. Do not use someone else's eye drops, particularly drops containing medicines.
When to seek urgent care
Seek emergency care for sudden vision loss, a severe new headache, confusion, weakness, seizure, stiff neck, fever, or a rapidly worsening illness. Marked light sensitivity with severe eye pain, a very red eye, injury, or vomiting needs urgent assessment. Meningitis can include light sensitivity with fever, headache, and neck stiffness, so do not wait for symptoms to become more complete.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your eyes need examination, whether the pattern fits migraine, and which treatments or lenses are appropriate. Mention changes in vision, discharge, eye pain, headache timing, medicines, and any recent injury or infection.
