Famotidine for acid reflux: what to know

Famotidine is an H2 blocker. It lowers the amount of acid released by the stomach, which can reduce burning behind the breastbone and sour fluid rising into the throat. It may be used for occasional symptoms or as part of a clinician's plan for ongoing Acid Reflux.

It does not repair every cause of reflux. A hiatus hernia, excess weight, medicines, large meals, or lying down soon after eating can all contribute. Reflux can also irritate the voice box and airways, sometimes causing a Cough or Chronic Cough.

Follow the label or prescription instructions and do not take more often than directed.
