Facial for Seborrheic Dermatitis: What to Know

Seborrheic dermatitis often affects oilier areas such as the sides of the nose, eyebrows, hairline, ears, and beard region. It may cause redness, itch, greasy scale, or dry-looking flakes. Facial scaling can occur alongside dandruff, itchy scalp, oily skin, or a flaky scalp, but similar changes can have other causes.

Cleanse with lukewarm water and a mild, non-scrubbing cleanser, then pat dry and use a simple moisturiser if needed. Avoid facial steaming, vigorous exfoliation, essential oils, and fragranced masks during a flare. A clinician may recommend Topical Antifungal Treatment; a Medicated Shampoo Treatment may be used for scalp involvement when appropriate.

Seek assessment if the rash is painful, oozing, crusted, rapidly spreading, or involving the eyes. Arrange review when symptoms persist despite a consistent routine, recur frequently, or the diagnosis is uncertain, since skin scaling may need a different treatment.
