What does an ectopic pregnancy feel like?

Some people have mild symptoms at first, while others develop sudden, severe pain. The symptoms can resemble a period, a miscarriage, or another cause of pelvic pain, so sensation alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilised egg implants outside the main cavity of the uterus, often in a fallopian tube. As the pregnancy grows, it can stretch or damage nearby tissue.
