Demodex mites and rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that can cause persistent or recurring redness, flushing, visible vessels, burning, sensitivity, and acne-like bumps. Demodex mites may be more abundant or more inflammatory in affected skin, but rosacea also involves the skin barrier, blood-vessel reactivity, immune responses, and personal triggers. A facial rash with mites is therefore not automatically rosacea, and rosacea symptoms do not prove that mites are the main driver.

Keep a simple record of heat, sun, spicy foods, alcohol, stress, products, and other situations that precede flares. Cleanse gently, moisturise, use sun protection, and introduce new products one at a time. A dermatologist may recommend treatment directed at inflammation, follicle organisms, or both. Options can include azelaic acid treatment, while light-based procedures such as IPL photofacial or pulsed dye laser treatment may be considered for selected persistent redness or visible vessels. Suitability depends on skin findings and medical history.

Book an appointment when redness, burning, bumps, or sensitivity keeps returning or begins affecting comfort. Seek urgent care for painful eye redness, light sensitivity, blurred vision, or marked eyelid swelling because rosacea-related eye involvement needs prompt attention. A sudden rash with facial swelling or breathing difficulty requires emergency help.
