Cornual Ectopic Pregnancy and Future Pregnancy

Cornual is commonly used for a pregnancy located at the upper corner of the uterus, close to where a fallopian tube passes through the uterine muscle. This location can stretch a relatively thin area as the pregnancy grows, so the condition needs specialist assessment even when symptoms are mild.

Treatment may involve medicine, minimally invasive surgery, or another operation, depending on the pregnancy's size and position, pregnancy hormone results, bleeding, and overall stability. The treatment used can affect the shape and strength of the uterine wall, which is why follow-up imaging and an individual plan matter.

A later pregnancy is not automatically ruled out. Fertility can depend on the condition of the other tube, any underlying pelvic disease, the treatment performed, and other reproductive factors. A clinician may recommend waiting until recovery is complete and pregnancy hormone levels have returned to a non-pregnant range before trying again.

Attend every follow-up visit so clinicians can confirm that the ectopic pregnancy has resolved and that healing is progressing. Ask when it is medically reasonable to try for pregnancy, whether a scan is needed before conception, and whether your treatment changes monitoring during a later pregnancy.

When pregnancy occurs again, contact your maternity or gynaecology team early. An early transvaginal ultrasound can help establish where the pregnancy is developing; it is different from relying on symptoms alone. Review warning signs and an emergency contact plan with your clinician.

Seek emergency care for sudden or worsening pelvic pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, marked weakness, dizziness, or heavy vaginal bleeding. These symptoms can signal internal bleeding and need immediate assessment; do not wait for a planned appointment.

During follow-up, promptly report new pelvic pain, bleeding, fever, or feeling increasingly unwell. If you are pregnant or might be pregnant, mention the previous cornual ectopic pregnancy when you seek help.
