Burning During Diode Laser Treatment: What to Know

Heat can be felt more strongly when settings, treatment speed, cooling, skin sensitivity, or the target area are not well matched. Recently tanned or irritated skin may react differently. Temporary redness or swelling around follicles can occur after hair removal, while marked blistering, crusting, colour change, or persistent pain suggests a more significant thermal injury and needs assessment.

Tell the operator at once if the sensation changes from tolerable warmth to sharp or intense burning. The session may need a pause, cooling, or a review of settings. Afterward, use the aftercare provided, keep the area cool, and avoid heat, friction, picking, and irritating products until the skin settles. Do not apply ice directly or treat a blister yourself.

Ask for prompt medical assessment if pain is severe or worsening, blisters or open skin develop, swelling spreads, or the treated area becomes increasingly red, hot, or draining. Urgent help is needed for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or a widespread reaction. Photographing changes can help the treating clinician assess progression.
