Early cancer detection in Dubai starts with three practical numbers: women aged 40+ need a mammogram every 2 years, adults aged 40-75 need colorectal screening, and self-pay colonoscopy packages in Dubai can run from about AED 5,500 to AED 9,000.
Who should be screened in Dubai
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) periodic screening guideline, issued on 11 March 2024 and effective from 11 May 2024, points Dubai providers to the UAE cancer screening schedule. It lists breast, cervical and colorectal cancer among eligible screening areas in periodic health checks DHA guideline.
- Breast cancer: females aged 40+, mammogram every 2 years; earlier screening may apply with family history or inherited mutation risk.
- Cervical cancer: sexually active, symptom-free women aged 25-65; every 3 years for ages 25-49 and every 5 years for ages 50-65.
- Colorectal cancer: men and women aged 40-75; FIT every 2 years or colonoscopy every 10 years.
That age profile matters because the UAE burden is measurable. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) National Cancer Registry reported 1,456 breast cancer cases in 2023, equal to 20.5% of newly diagnosed invasive cancer cases. Colorectal cancer accounted for 588 cases, or 8.3%. Among UAE females, breast cancer was 36.6% of invasive cancers, followed by colorectal cancer at 5.7% and cervical cancer at 3.7% MOHAP registry report.
What happens after the first test
A screening mammogram is a short imaging appointment, but the operating issue is turnaround. Mediclinic Middle East says its mammogram procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes and results are shared within 15 working days. Its listed Dubai and UAE package rates are AED 375 for mammogram, AED 350 for breast ultrasound, and AED 725 for both with physician consultation Mediclinic breast screening rates.
An abnormal mammogram usually triggers extra views, breast ultrasound, surgical breast consultation, fine needle aspiration or image-guided biopsy. A provider should treat that as a managed pathway, with a named radiology handoff and pre-authorisation check before the patient leaves. The revenue risk is leakage: a patient who receives an abnormal result without a booked follow-up may move to another network provider.
Cervical screening has a lower unit price but a similar pathway issue. A Medcare Women & Children Hospital package listed AED 449 for gynaecologist consultation, HPV test and Pap smear, valid from 1 January to 31 May 2026, with MOH approval shown on the offer page Medcare cervical screening package. Operators should verify current price, insurance eligibility and lab turnaround at booking, because promotional prices can expire.
The colorectal cost gap
Colorectal screening has the widest price spread. FIT is a stool-based test used in screening programmes, while colonoscopy is an endoscopic procedure that can detect and remove polyps in the same session. Dubai self-pay prices vary by facility, sedation, biopsy and histology. Published package prices include AED 5,500 for a colorectal screening promotion at Dubai London Hospital and AED 6,500 for a colonoscopy screening package at Mubadala Health Dubai. Elemental Day Surgical Center lists colonoscopy under sedation from AED 9,000, with a AED 750 gastroenterology consultation Dubai London Hospital promotions Mubadala Health Dubai package Elemental colonoscopy pricing.
For Abu Dhabi operators, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DOH) is the relevant regulator. DOH’s breast cancer screening standard says Thiqa reimbursement follows the DOH preventive interventions list, while non-Thiqa payment follows the patient’s insurance product or plan DOH breast screening standard. The IFHAS programme covers Thiqa holders aged 18-75 and is typically repeated every 3 years, with eligibility checked through Daman ADPHC IFHAS programme.
In Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, MOHAP is the main federal reference point for public screening guidance and licensed facilities. For private operators, the practical step is to build a price matrix by test, emirate, insurer and referral endpoint. At minimum, that matrix should show the cash price, pre-authorisation requirement, result turnaround and the named referral route for positive findings.
The next commercial test is simple: can a patient move from eligibility check to booked screening in one phone call? Providers that can answer that for breast, cervical and colorectal screening will capture preventive demand before it becomes symptomatic care. For licensed oncology and cancer-care providers, readers should use the UAE Open Healthcare Directory, which lists UAE healthcare providers across all seven emirates.
