Yeast infection red spots: what to know

Inflammation from thrush may produce scattered red dots, patches, swelling, or tiny surface breaks on sensitive vulval skin. Itching and burning often accompany the visible changes, and discharge may be present or absent. Soap, shaving, sweat, pads, condoms, lubricants, eczema, and other infections can create similar marks. Note where the spots are, whether they itch or hurt, and whether they appeared after a new product or sexual contact.

Stop newly introduced scented or medicated products until the cause is clearer. Rinse gently, dry by patting, wear breathable underwear, and avoid rubbing the area. Do not pop, scrape, or apply steroid cream or leftover treatment without advice. A clinician or pharmacist can match treatment to the pattern and symptoms; an examination may be needed when the appearance is unusual.

Book a review when the spots are new and unexplained, recur, fail to settle, or occur with unusual discharge, pain, or urinary burning. Seek prompt care for blisters, open sores, rapidly increasing swelling, fever, pelvic pain, or trouble urinating.
