Under-eye wrinkles and crow's feet

Short answer
Under-eye wrinkles and crow's feet commonly reflect repeated smiling or squinting, sun exposure, dryness, and delicate skin structure.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Typical triggers
- Smiling, squinting, sun exposure, and dryness
- Eye-area habit
- Use gentle products and avoid rubbing
- Urgent symptom
- Sudden vision change or severe eye pain
Why these lines form
The skin around the eyes is thin and folds with blinking, smiling, and squinting. These movement-related lines can first appear only during expression, then become easier to see at rest as skin support and elasticity change. Sun exposure can accelerate surface texture and uneven tone, while dryness or irritation makes fine creases stand out. Crow’s feet usually sit at the outer corners; lines directly beneath the lower eyelid may have different causes, including dryness or natural anatomy. A sudden one-sided change, swelling, or rash should not be dismissed as ordinary wrinkles.
Protect and treat the area carefully
Use a gentle, fragrance-free product around the eyes, avoid rubbing, and wear sunglasses and sunscreen suitable for the surrounding skin. Manage allergies or irritation with medical guidance rather than repeatedly scratching. If you are considering treatment, a qualified clinician may discuss Botox for selected expression lines. Dermal Fillers involve different risks and are not appropriate for every under-eye hollow or crease. The consultation should cover anatomy, medical history, eye symptoms, realistic aims, and aftercare.
When to seek care
Arrange an examination for persistent redness, scaling, itch, pain, discharge, a new lump, marked swelling, or a lesion that bleeds or does not heal. Seek urgent medical help for sudden vision change, severe eye pain, facial weakness, or swelling that affects breathing. Stable lines without these features can be reviewed at a routine appointment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the lines are crow’s feet, under-eye dryness, hollowness, or another issue; which products are safe near your eyes; and what benefits, risks, alternatives, and aftercare apply to each treatment.

Questions people ask
Are crow’s feet the same as all under-eye wrinkles?
No. Crow’s feet are lines at the outer eye corners, while lower-eyelid creases may reflect different anatomy or surface dryness.
Can Botox reduce crow’s feet?
It may soften selected movement-related lines after an experienced clinician assesses the eye area and facial balance.
