Why is polydioxanone thread used in thread lift?

Polydioxanone, often called PDO, is a dissolvable surgical suture material. In a thread lift, a clinician places smooth or mechanically supportive threads under the skin through small entry points. Depending on the design and placement, the thread can give a subtle lifting effect or support a targeted area while the surrounding tissue settles.

The result is not the same as surgery that removes excess skin. Swelling, bruising, tightness, dimpling or temporary asymmetry may occur while the area heals. The visible effect and suitability depend on skin laxity, anatomy, thread design and the operator’s technique.

Discuss the area to be treated, the intended degree of lift and alternatives with a qualified medical practitioner. Report dental work, skin infection, bleeding conditions, medicines and previous procedures near the planned entry points. Ask how the threads will be placed and what restrictions apply afterward.

Keep the area clean and follow instructions about facial movement, pressure, exercise, sleeping position and skincare. Do not pull at a visible thread or massage a tender area unless the treating clinician tells you to. Attend a review if the contour feels uneven or the skin remains unusually tight.

Call the clinic if redness, warmth, swelling or pain is increasing, if a thread becomes exposed, or if drainage develops near an entry point. Seek urgent care for severe facial swelling, trouble breathing, sudden vision symptoms or neurological changes. Prompt assessment can help distinguish expected healing from a complication.
