How the kidneys affect thirst
Excessive Thirst is a common presentation of Chronic Kidney Disease. Healthy kidneys adjust the amount of water and salts leaving the body in urine. When kidney function is impaired, urine may be more dilute and the body can signal for more fluid. Thirst can also occur with other causes, including high blood glucose, medicines, dry mouth or fluid loss from vomiting and diarrhoea.
