Why does alcohol use disorder cause tremor?

Alcohol slows parts of the nervous system. With repeated heavy use, the body adapts to that effect. When the alcohol level drops, the nervous system can rebound into a more activated state, causing shaky hands, sweating, anxiety, nausea or a racing heartbeat. Tremor is a common presentation of Alcohol Use Disorder, especially when withdrawal is involved, though tremor also has many other medical causes. The shaking may make holding a cup, writing or using a phone harder.
