Whole head headache: what to know

Short answer
A headache felt across the whole head can follow tension, illness, dehydration, heat, or poor sleep, but sudden severe pain or neurological symptoms need urgent assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Pattern
- Pressure across both sides can have several causes.
- Useful record
- Timing, triggers, and accompanying symptoms.
- Urgency
- Sudden severe pain or neurological symptoms need urgent care.
What a whole-head pattern can suggest
Pressure or tightness on both sides may occur when neck and scalp muscles are tense. Headache can also accompany a cold-like illness, nasal congestion, missed meals, reduced fluid intake, or time in hot conditions. Notice the setting: a new headache after heat exposure with thirst, weakness, or dizziness needs rest, cooling, and fluids; ongoing sinus or allergy symptoms can add facial pressure. The pattern alone cannot identify the cause.
What you can do now
Move to a quiet, cool place, drink water gradually, and have a regular meal if you have not eaten. Reduce screen glare and take a break from strenuous activity. Resting the eyes, gentle neck movement, and a cool or warm compress may be soothing. Keep a short note of when the pain began, what you were doing, associated symptoms, and medicines taken; this helps a clinician assess recurring headaches.
When to seek care
Seek urgent medical help for a headache that reaches maximum intensity very quickly, follows a head injury, or occurs with fainting, confusion, a seizure, weakness, trouble speaking, new vision loss, stiff neck, or a rash. Arrange medical assessment for a new persistent pattern, a headache that repeatedly wakes you, or pain with fever and worsening illness. In the UAE, take extra care after sun or heat exposure, especially when vomiting or marked weakness is present.
Questions to take to your clinician
Ask whether your symptoms fit a tension-type headache, an infection-related problem, dehydration, or another cause. Mention any recent travel, heat exposure, nasal symptoms, stress, changes in vision, pregnancy, and medicines or supplements. Ask which warning signs should prompt urgent reassessment and whether a headache diary would be useful.

Questions people ask
Can dehydration cause a whole-head headache?
Reduced fluid intake, heat, vomiting, or heavy sweating can contribute to headache. Rehydrate gradually and seek care if symptoms are severe or do not settle.
Can sinus symptoms cause headache?
Nasal blockage and facial pressure can occur with allergy or sinus problems. A clinician can assess persistent congestion, fever, facial swelling, or worsening pain.
