What should you know about white warts on face?

A wart is a localised skin growth linked to a virus. On facial skin it may appear flesh-coloured, grey-white, or lighter than the surrounding area, with a smooth or uneven surface. A facial wart can be mistaken for milia, a skin tag, acne, or another lesion, so appearance alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.

Avoid cutting, burning, or applying strong wart acids near the eyes, lips, or nose unless a clinician has specifically advised it. Irritation can cause a wound, pigment change, or spread of the virus to nearby skin.

Arrange a dermatology assessment if the bump is new, multiplying, persistent, or changing. The clinician may examine its surface and location before discussing options such as prescribed imiquimod, freezing with cryotherapy, electrosurgery, or a procedure for wart removal. Choice depends on the diagnosis, size, depth, and proximity to delicate facial structures.

Keep the area clean, avoid picking or shaving across it, and do not share towels, razors, or cosmetics that touch the lesion. Follow the treatment schedule carefully because treated skin may become red, sore, or crusted while it heals.

Seek prompt medical assessment for bleeding without clear injury, rapid enlargement, marked pain, ulceration, a dark or irregular colour change, or a lesion close to the eye. Get urgent help for facial swelling with trouble breathing or swallowing. These features do not prove a serious condition, but they need a clinician’s examination rather than home treatment.

Ask whether the lesion is a wart or a look-alike, whether treatment could affect nearby normal skin, how long healing may take, and which changes should trigger a review. Tell the clinician about previous treatments, sensitive skin, and any tendency to form raised scars.
