What should you know about white spots on penile skin?

Pale dots on the shaft may be visible sebaceous glands or other harmless anatomical features, particularly when they are small, stable, and not inflamed. Friction, shaving, sweat, contact dermatitis, and inflammation can produce a different pattern. Infection becomes more concerning when there is soreness, itch, discharge, ulcers, blisters, or a recent sexual exposure.

A white mark is a description, not a diagnosis. Note whether it is flat or raised, smooth or scaly, solitary or grouped, and whether it is changing. These details help a clinician decide whether examination or testing is useful.

Rinse gently, dry the area, wear breathable underwear, and stop any new fragranced wash, lubricant, or shaving product. Do not squeeze the spots or apply bleach, steroid, antifungal, or acne medicine without advice. If an STI is possible, avoid sexual contact until you have been assessed and discuss testing with a sexual-health clinician.

Arrange review for a new, persistent, spreading, or unexplained change. Treatment depends on the cause; cosmetic removal of a normal feature can create scarring or irritation, so diagnosis comes first.
