What should you know about white spots on the penile glans?

Small, uniform, flesh-coloured or pale bumps arranged around the rim may be pearly penile papules, a normal variant that is not caused by poor hygiene. Other possibilities include blocked glands, friction-related irritation, inflammation under the foreskin, or a sexually transmitted infection. Appearance alone cannot confirm the cause.

Pain, itch, burning when urinating, discharge, ulcers, blisters, bleeding, or a recent sexual exposure changes the level of concern. Do not assume that a spot is an STI or that it is harmless without considering these details.

Wash gently with water or a mild unscented cleanser, dry carefully, and avoid squeezing, shaving over, antiseptics, and fragranced products. If symptoms began after sex or a new product, pause sexual contact until assessed and use condoms when sex resumes, according to clinician advice.

Arrange a sexual-health or dermatology assessment for new, changing, painful, or unexplained spots. A clinician may inspect the area and offer tests based on symptoms and exposure; do not use acne treatments or LED Light Therapy on the glans unless specifically directed.
