White spots on forehead after sun exposure

A pale flat area may become easier to see after nearby skin darkens. Dryness or mild peeling after sun exposure can also create a lighter, uneven surface. If the patch has fine scale, itch, a sharp border, or gradual enlargement, a fungal or inflammatory skin problem should be considered rather than assuming the sun caused it.

Small bumps are not the same as flat pigment change. Heat, sweat, occlusive sunscreen, and hair products can block follicles on the forehead and produce white-looking bumps. The pattern, surface, and symptoms are more useful than colour alone.

Use broad-spectrum sunscreen, shade, and a hat, and reapply sunscreen as directed on its label. Moisturise gently after washing and pause fragranced products or exfoliating acids if the skin stings or flakes. Do not try to tan the pale area or use bleaching products. A clinician can check the patch under suitable lighting and recommend treatment if scale or inflammation is present.

Book an appointment if the area keeps expanding, repeatedly peels, becomes itchy or sore, or remains clearly different after the surrounding tan fades. Seek prompt care for painful blistering, extensive peeling, fever, or facial swelling after sun exposure.

Ask whether the change is pigment, surface scale, or follicle-related bumps; whether a skin scraping or other examination is needed; and how to protect the area while it settles. Tell the clinician about recent sunburn, products, medicines, and travel.
