White pimple-type spots on the face

Small pale bumps that are not very sore may be closed comedones, while red or itchy bumps around hairs can fit folliculitis. A rash clustered around the mouth may fit perioral dermatitis; flushing, warmth, or recurring central-face bumps can occur with rosacea. Acne can include both whiteheads and inflamed spots, and hormonal changes may influence where breakouts recur. A spot does not identify its cause by appearance alone.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, avoid scrubbing, and choose non-comedogenic moisturiser and sunscreen. Do not squeeze or scrape the bumps, because irritation can prolong redness and leave marks. Pause new fragranced products, heavy oils, and harsh exfoliants while you observe the pattern. If shaving seems related, use a clean razor and avoid shaving very closely over active bumps. A clinician can distinguish acne from folliculitis or a facial rash and tailor treatment.

Arrange medical advice if spots are painful, deep, rapidly spreading, repeatedly returning, or leaving scars or persistent dark marks. Seek prompt care for marked swelling, warmth, pus with worsening tenderness, fever, or eye involvement. A new rash around the mouth that burns or continues after stopping a product also deserves review.
